Catchin' Up

Once Miss Kate found out how fun it was to be outside she thinks its the best place to be. She doesn't really care if its dark or cold or wet or windy. She will step out on the patio and stand there looking around at whatever she may see of interest...usually birds and come in every now and then for a breather.
The mischievous face of the escapee sneaking out the door.
Enjoying her freedom.

And hiding because she doesn't want to come back in.

Today we spent the morning catching up on housework and after-travel clean-up. Miss Kate was getting one bang-n-bump after another and acting very sleepy in spite of having slept in until 10:00 already. She could barely help me finish baking cookies without collapsing and she'd only been awake for 3 hrs. She'd even helped herself to several pieces of chocolate before I caught her.

This pic actually belongs first but my computer isn't cooperating for me so I can't get it to move. (that is why this post is all hodge-podge and the "Today" part landed right in the middle of the "Catch-Up" part) If you look closely you can see the purple bruise on her cheek. It looks much worse in real life.

When its too windy to play outside we get out the cardboard inside and make fun stuff. A couple weeks ago we did this slide and Miss Kate enjoyed it for several days.It was pretty high so I didn't let her use it without me to help her until we moved it into a corner later in the week. As you can see it took quite a pile of stuff for adequate support.

When its sunny we go walking. Sometimes to the park and sometimes just around Aunt Vi's neighborhood.
And when it's a sunny weekend we do fun stuff with Mr. Wise Guy. Mothers Day weekend was beautiful and we got our garden all planted out at B&B's.

The guys did most of the work and us ladies sat and watched the girls play in the water.

They sat and poured water back and forth for hours.
Cousin A likes to sit in the water...

while Miss Kate just sits beside it.
But they both end up just as wet...
And they both like to drink it, even though it is cloudy with sunscreen and full of floaties.

That was also the day I tried Miss Kates patience with a new hairdo. She did amazingly well, but we haven't done it again since. :)

What's that smell?

This morning when I came out of the bathroom I found Miss Kate had helped herself to Daddy's deodorant and was diligently applying it to her underarm...and her tummy...and her shirt! She reeked of it all day long! Lets just say we thought of Daddy often today. :)
Then she pouted because she wanted to play with the camera...but you could almost imagine she was being good in this picture instead.

On a random note...She loves to play in the car or her carseat. She spent quite a bit of time in her carseat this afternoon, imagining she was going somewhere, I guess, since it was inside. Mr. Wise Guy drove today so he left the carseat for us in case we needed it...but we left the keys to the other car in the car he took so we couldn't go anywhere anyway. Vi took pity on us and picked us up to go get seeds for our "hope to have" garden. She noticed the manly scent of Miss Kate right away. :D

This and That

Here are my typical 3 pics from the last trip to Portland/Vancouver area.
Miss Kate has taken a liking to Ty-Boy for some reason. She has always Oohh-ed over his pic on our fridge in her high enthusiastic voice but I didn't know she actually knew who he was. She just likes other small folks...particularly boys. They got along quite nicely on Sun. He took good care of her, beeping her nose continually (which she giggled over) and even giving her flowers after first chasing her about trying in vain to tuck them behing her ear. She usually loves the "pretties" that she sees in the store, but she promptly threw his on the ground and ran off laughing. :) Makes me wonder what we have in store for us with this child??? Making sure Kate doesn't escape to the parking area.
Sneaking in some time with Aunt Susie...the most requested Auntie among small people...and Moms too.

Everybody loves Aunt Susie. :)
So, there you have the 3 grande photos. :D

These are some of Miss Kate's 'supervised play time' things which she happened to find the other day and help herself to.
Usually she gets 5 crayons at a time....But she enjoyed the marker set AND all 96 crayons at once. The look on her face is saying "As long as I keep smiling this is OK right mom?... see, I'm putting them back in this box as fast as I can". (She was quickly trying to stuff the crayons into the marker box as soon as she found she'd been spotted.)She does love to draw...and she loves to help put things away...but I think she needs a little more work on matching colors. :D 2 out of 8 isn't such a great score. And if you haven't yet noticed...we have hair issues. Her 'good-morning' hair and her 'after nap' hair are just wild these days. She was playing with "kirkols" (circles) , while I was getting the kitchen in order, and getting a kick outta peeking through them at me. When I got the camera and asked her to peek at me she just gave me this...If I look sweet enough I don't have to perform for you right?
She continued to do this at me until I left her alone.

This afternoon when I got out the vacuum cleaner she rushed around gathering her favorite puppies and her blankey and parked herself on this perch in her toy corner looking very nervous.

She did this the whole time I vacuumed......except when I went right up to her box with the vacuum. Then she went into protection mode with her doggy. It was very cute...her trying to protect her puppy from the vacuum.

Need I say that she was happy when I was finished. :)
